“It’s alright, Jesus loves you”. This is what most call “evangelizing”. Just tell them Jesus loves them and wants a relationship with them regardless of the sinful life they are living. Notice there isn’t a mention of repentance. Just keep doing what your doing and live your life the way you want and when its all over you go to heaven. After all didn’t Jesus say to love others? Well let’s see what Jesus said when he was asked about the greatest commandment.
- Matthew 22:34-40
As we see in the text the first and greatest commandment is “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment.” Are we putting God first? Or are we putting man first? If we truly put God first we will tell people that they are sinning and they must repent! Too many churches are preaching “do what you want just come to the alter call.” These are generally done in the modern church. It is easy to get lots of followers if you never tell the congregation that they are doing something wrong in the eyes of God. Its also the easiest and most incorrect way to evangelize. If we go around patting others on the back and say “Jesus loves you”. We are telling them only part of the story. They hear that it doesn’t matter what sinful life they are living, God loves them just the way they are and they don’t need to change to please Him. Let’s take a look at what Jesus said in the first part of this chapter.
- Matthew 22:1-14
Many people are being led astray! And when they die they find out that they were led astray. It is very important to preach and evangelize correctly. Law and Gospel together. Shown their sin, and need for a savior. Repentance and then forgiveness and absolution. Enter through the narrow gate.
- Matthew 7:13-14
